This is one of my personal all-time favorite series. Not as flashy or expensive as “Rome”, but full of crisp writing and some of the greatest villains of all time, as well you know. I love the series’ subtleties. (Like the easily missable moment when Claudius is still a child and a prophet declares him the future protector of Rome. Livilla hopes aloud that she’ll be dead by that time, at which point her mother sends her to her room–without supper. Kind of an eerie use of foreshadowing that you might not catch the first time through.) I watch this series about once a year and it never gets old. Can’t wait to hear your next villain essay!
Teresa:
I have always remembered your recommendation of Claudius from a few years ago, and I’m glad I finally got around to it. It’s as good as you say.
Bryon and I are working are way through the books. They are not as good, but interesting.
