What I’m Working on Now

As part of the effort to consider myself more authorly, I’m going to get back in the habit of doing these posts. Here are all the projects I have going at the moment.

Since this is more for me, I will put a lovely little cut here, although you are welcome to take a peek.

Abigail Rath Versus Blood-Sucking Fiends

Premise: Abigail Rath sees herself as a monster hunter, just like her mom and dad. It turns out that hunting monsters isn’t like the movies, and Abby gets grounded because of her first solo attempt. When a couple of supernatural creatures turn up at Abby’s school, Abby has to investigate, keep the school safe, and convince her parents that she’s following the rules.

Middle Grade. Yes, I have finally decided this is a middle-grade book. The kids are 13, but they’re doing middle-grade things. Not enough YA relationship stuff in here.

We are in draft number 3. After this draft, there will be beta reading galore. The goal is still to have this out the door by Christmas break.

The Klarion Scroll Series

Overarching: Thanks to a very useful plot break at Taos Toolbox, I know have the entire overarching demon plot figured out.

Also, I have the major events plotted throughout the series via timelines.

Book One: Yet to get a clever name, this will be the next project I work on after Abigail Rath. Why not 3, as originally planned? Two reasons:

1. I have to make sure that the overarching plot is plugged in in the right order so I don’t write myself into any prequel corners.

2. Walter Jon Williams asked me why I wasn’t writing the first book first, and I didn’t have a good answer for that.

Easily, this will be the next several years of my life.

Falling Superhero Girlfriend Story: I started the Superhero’s Girlfriend story at World Con in my notebook. I’ve been dinking around with the tone of this thing forever, and I think I’ve got it. Looks to be a bit sexy. We’ll see how it goes.

The Were-humans: Paper Golem would like me to send them a novella, so I’m thinking about shaping this up into a novella after all.

Author: Catherine Schaff-Stump

Catherine Schaff-Stump writes fiction for children and young adults. Her most recent book, The Vessel of Ra, is the first book in the Klaereon Scroll series. She is currently working on its sequel, as well as penning the middle grade adventures of Abigail Rath, monster hunter.
