Duotrope is a compendium of writer resources. If you subscribe, you can get weekly updates of new markets, closed markets, and anthologies. You *can* find a good fit for your short stories!
Let’s talk a little about rates. These are loose guidelines, but they'll help you know what you're looking at.
For the Love: I want to be published, and I’ll do it for free.
Token: I wouldn’t mind a little money, but I understand I won’t get much.
Semi-pro: Around 1-5 cents a word.
Pro: 5 cents a word or above.
Getting shorts published is a good idea, for exposure, if nothing else.
Duotrope offers a title index, as well as a search engine. It also has a system for keeping track of your queries, and an estimated response time, based on the reports of previous members. Duotrope exists on donations.
